Shorter sessions and accelerated courses are different

A shorter stimulation session does not necessarily mean a shorter overall course. Intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) delivers pulses in brief bursts. Standard daily and accelerated schedules have different requirements.

BrainsWay theta-burst and accelerated Deep TMS

A three-minute theta-burst protocol is FDA-cleared for depression. BrainsWay’s accelerated protocol, cleared in 2025, uses approximately ten-minute sessions with multiple treatments on designated days and continuation visits. The FDA submission reported comparable clinical outcomes to standard Deep TMS in the study used for clearance. This is not a promise of equal benefit for every patient.

How SAINT differs

The Magnus system with SAINT technology received FDA clearance in 2022 for certain adults with major depressive disorder. It uses an individualized MRI-informed target and a specific accelerated protocol. It is not interchangeable with any schedule that simply gives several theta-burst sessions in a day. Houston West TMS’s BrainsWay treatment should not be described as SAINT.

Questions before choosing a schedule

Ask which device and protocol will be used, why it is appropriate, how long you must remain at the office, and what continuation care is planned. Clearance, clinical suitability, and insurance coverage are separate questions. Accelerated schedules may require self-payment; coverage must be checked.
